Creating Community At Work And Home
July 2001 Volume 2 Issue 6
You may have noticed that your June newsletter was not sent to you. June became the time for a much needed vacation out west. We are back with the July issue!
Pegine’s Thought of the Month:
Making our community strong, powerful and heard begins with us. It begins with taking a step and asking ourselves “What can I do to make a difference in my community, my family and for my neighbors?.”
~ Pegine Echevarria
Donate To Not For Profits Who Offer Mentoring To Young People
Help us help them. Donate “For All Our Daughters: How Mentoring Helps
Young Women and Girls Master the Art of Growing Up. ” to your local youth group. We want to get the book in as many mentors hands as possible.
Please help us. If your company can purchase books to donate to your
local Girl Scouts, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Y’s, or any mentoring program we will offer a major discount to them.

Quotes of the Month:
The human contribution is the essential ingredient.
It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live.
~ Ethel Percy Andrus
Try-its:
1 Ask yourself the following questions:
What is bothering me about my community?
What changes would I want to see happen?
Has anyone asked me to get involved?
2. Call local community groups to see what volunteer opportunities are available.
3. Before you sign up wait 24 hours to ask yourself the following:
a) Will I learn new skills that would improve my family, career or
self?
b) How much time can I give and when is the best time? (Everyone can give one hour per week)
c) Does this match with my mission, purpose and beliefs?
4. Call and ask for the date for the next meeting. Commit yourself to attend.
5. Attend two meetings or lunch dates or coffee meetings with the some of the people you will be involved with. Evaluate how you are compatible or not.
Are these people you want to affiliate yourself with?
If not find a different group – recommitting to serve others for
yourself and your community.
6. After two months write down how your involvement has made a difference in your life, the life of your community and the POSITVE impact on your family.
Books:
“The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale. The first time I read this book was when I was 17 years old. It was then that I realized that my attitude was my choice. The book is as important now as it was then. Keeping to the basics for your financial, life, career and relationship success depends on your attitude. This content rich simple book reviews the steps we can all take to go from being ordinary to extraordinary.
Pegine is available to speak to your group, college, organization, or
company. Go to www.pegine.com for more information.
Kick butt actions:
1. Make a decision to reach out to your neighbors. Bring a cake or a bottle of wine over to a neighbor’s home; just to say your glad you’re my neighbor. They will be there for you when you need help.
2. Every time you enter an elevator. Look at the people who are there and say good morning. You have thirty seconds to make an impression on the person in the elevator and YOU NEVER KNOW who is in the elevator with you. Be prepared to be your best.
3. Follow you instincts! When the hair on the back of your neck is
screaming danger don’t go down the street, in the elevator or go off with a stranger (teach your children to follow their instincts).
4. When you arrive in your office take a moment to stop look around and purposefully create community by interacting with the people in your path. Just a hello or smile can make a difference.
The Motivational Times offers monthly suggestions, quotes, try-its, books and kick butt actions that can take you steps –no LEAPS, into a positive today! Being alive, having the courage to try some of the techniques and being liberated from thoughts, actions, or beliefs that hold you back are the basis of this newsletter. I hope you receive as much from this message as I get from being able to share the message that has been given to me.
