Try-its:
Here is how you can Pump It Up for 2004
P – Positive Attitude. Each and every day play a game with yourself called the Positive Attitude game. When you find yourself feeling low, frustrated by circumstance or just plain overwhelmed, take a moment to ask yourself the following questions: What are alternatives, more positive ways of behaving? What are different attitudes I can take on? What am I learning? Then acknowledge that, at that moment, you are choosing the attitude you have, knowing, that if you don’t like your current attitude you can change it to a more positive and productive attitude.
U – Unleash your talents, desires, your dream. Today live your life as you want to live it. It can be any number of small steps from giving your husband the kiss you want to have, to sitting down and writing a paragraph of the book you want to write. It can be painting a picture, because that is what you want to do. It can be asking for the opportunity to be a manager, head up a task force, or decide to share your cost saving idea with senior executives. Stop living with the excuses. Let yourself go for it.
M - Motivate Yourself Do what ever you need to do to motivate yourself. Listen to CD’s (go to http://www.pegine.com/products.html for new CD’s), write in a journal; get yourself a coach (we can help, contact us info@pegine.com). Sing in the shower about how great you are. Do any positive action that will motivate you. Stop waiting for the fairy godmother to tap you on the shoulder. She isn’t coming. You are your own fairy godmother, learn how to motivate yourself.
P – Be persistent. Don’t give up. Be relentless. Cry if you must but keep on keeping on. Sitting down and giving up doesn’t help you, you’ll feel like you gave up on yourself and you can easily fall prey into blaming the world. Don’t give up. Read biographies, learn that everyone has trials and tribulations, which is how the game of life works. The game of life is to learn about yourself and take the next step to move beyond where you are now. To be able to laugh at yourself and say, “Look at the way I’m behaving, that’s so funny. What was I thinking?” If you only knew how many times in a day I say that to myself, or the times when I finish an activity and am in a moment of reflection, when I notice how far I’ve come and how cool it is to grow.

Kick-butt actions:
This is a time of reflection and appreciation.
I grew up with my brother in the Bronx. My mom raised us while she worked two, sometimes three jobs. We lived with my grandmother, mom, my aunt, my two cousins and my brother. My dad drifted away. By the time I was twelve he was no longer in my life. By age fourteen, I was smoking a pack of day. By the time I was twenty four I smoked three packs a day. When I was twenty nine I kicked the habit.
When I was seventeen I stood in front of my neighborhood’s local hangout with ‘friends’ and in my head I evaluated my life. I had already been to two high schools and was flunking out of college. Here I stood in front of Jack’s Candy Store. A local drug dealer just accused me of being too pushy and some other choice words that I can’t share here. I just learned that my girlfriend’s sister was running a prostitution ring. The other people hanging out were all trying to figure out their next steps in life or not. I knew that I had to get out I knew hat this life was not where I wanted to be, nor where I deserved to be. I wanted to be an expert in something, a TV expert (I imagined how cool and glamorous that life would be). That was as far as I thought. I went home and told my mom I was going to Spain. I don’t know why, I only knew I wanted to get out of the Bronx. It was the best decision I ever made.
Fast Forward – Thirty years. I am living my dreams and then some. I wouldn’t trade it with anyone. Life hasn’t been easy nor has it been the glamorous life I imagined when I was seventeen. Pump it Up has been how I’ve lived life. I live in a community of incredible neighbors, my soul mate/business partner/best friend and I have been together twenty years. My seventeen year old computer wiz son is about to embark on his dream of being a solider as a member of the Army National Guard. My fifteen year old daughter celebrated her Quinceañera (debutante coming out party) and has won numerous awards for leadership, volunteerism and community service. Mom lives 5 minutes away, my brother three houses down.
A national expert on leadership, success and teambuilding I’m on TV every month, articles and interviews appear in national magazines. We live in paradise. Life is good. The rough times…they come and I deal with them.
The rough times I have now are far better than the rough times I could be having. My half sister hung out in the same neighborhood, many of her friends knew me. She made a different choice. She died a few years back, a heroin addict.
It’s always our choice. Choose to Pump it Up! Make the choice to go after your dream and live the life you dream of. Take the risk.
