9/11 A Story of Goodness, Hope and the Power of Teddy Bears, Teamwork and an Idea

#September11 #TheTeddyBearProject #OneIdeaMakesADifference

I got the call from my sister-in-law, “just turn on the TV.”

We had just moved to Florida from New York. David and I are born and raised in NYC kids. Our family tradition had been, since the time the children were born, to go to the World Trade Center, have breakfast on a Saturday morning and watch the photographers take wedding pictures, while we ate a croissant and coffee with the kids. Then we walked to Canal Street and did shopping. It was our family tradition.

Every year we would also go to Jimmy Curran, his wife Maryilyn’s house for their annual fireman’s celebration. Jimmy and Marilyn were friends of my family since I was a teen Jimmy had been the Captain of NYCFD Rescue One. And was also the president of the New York City Firefighters Burn Unit. He had become the trainer of every firefighter for a high-level risk recovery.

Your Super Power Always Shows Up – Believe In You

From the moment you wake up you decide who you are and what you believe about yourself.  You live with that choice on a daily basis.  The way you feel about yourself is an indicator to you if those beliefs or thoughts are true or not. The way you feel when you are thinking those thoughts tell you if you are on the right course or not.

Feeling bad, wanting to cover your head, hiding or worrying about your future are all indicators that your thoughts are not in your highest best interest, that they are not what your inner self, your inner superpower thinks of you.

Inner Child or Inner Super Power

I hold a Masters in Social Work (MSW). I was trained about the concepts of inner child work and learned this inner child has to be cared for, nurtured, held tight and protected by you.  Therapists and doctors write about the inner child and how the traumas and hurts experienced by us as children created beliefs that hold us back from becoming mature adults.

Living Powerfully with Joy

Living with joy is a feeling that is hard to express, it is bliss, that wonderful feeling that everything just right. It is liberating and freeing and it is dependent on one question “What makes me happy?”  What makes you happy?

Be opitimistic. Joyous living comes from appreciating what you have, who you are and what you are creating for your highest, best self.

What really makes you happy?

  • I know people who love their work. They love it so much, we as onlookers say they are working too hard, but for them…they are in bliss.
  • I know people who adore their hobbies and feel a rush when they spend time on them. It fills a part of their soul that is magical.
  • I know people who can loll the day away on a beach and feel such serenity and joy, it is amazing.

Women, Be Prepared For Your Future

Stop looking at the past. You have to see your future, see your future positively and with the intent to make a difference.  See your future and believe in your future. Embrace it and prepare for it.  Here are 7 steps to help you focus on your future

Prepare for your future using these 7 steps

1. Perceive your future

Stop and imagine. Image your future. See where you are standing, see who you are serving, see who is showing up to receive from you.  It is so inspiring to see your future, what are you are producing,  giving. Who are you? Imagine you in your zone, in your flow. What does that look like?

Your truth lies in the knowing who you are, in your now and in your future.

Secret Key to Asking

Magic sauce Ask for what you want

There is a secret key to achieving your dreams.  The key is asking. It is one of the most daunting action steps a person can take, and the most liberating.

There are many ways of asking, for most situations it starts with these three steps.

1. Decide what you want, specifically, know what you want overall. Then decide what you want in specifics (really break it down)

2. Know who to ask

3 Ask

It all sounds so simple.  I know it isn’t.

4 Changes Caused by Women In Leadership

Last night I was in a restaurant and noticed a group of women in the corner. The restaurant was empty and the voices of the women reached my table. They were talking about leadership, opportunities and women in leadership.

They were talking about their next steps, I was able to surmise that they worked for a large global corporation and were in senior leadership. As my ears grew and I strained to listen I heard the same things that I hear from my coaching clients, all who are in senior leadership.

The Gift of Knowing

I have had a long time of knowing. A long time of knowing but not necessarily believing this was my destiny. For a long time, I kept asking for my mission and my purpose. While I had many signals that directed me, I still was not sure.

My journey has been as glorious as a winding stream traveling long distances, curving, going back, and having many switchbacks. At times my stream was a rapid river of abundance and experiences, at other times it was a little trickle, still moving but by droplets. I know I was impatient, wondering and often not appreciating where I was and how I got there.

What I’ve learned is the stream will always be flowing until the day I die, only then, maybe I will have reached my destiny.

Be A Diamond Cutter

A foible is a minor weakness or eccentricity in someone’s character. Synonyms include words such as weakness, failing, shortcomings, flaws, imperfections, blemish, fault or limitations.

Humans tend to look for imperfections, comparing themselves to perfection which doesn’t exist. They search for what is wrong rather than search for what is right.

I love reading about diamonds and their value. I apply what I learn to myself and the people I work with. I want to use my knowledge to help people respect, honor and showcase their value.

Recently I read about the flaws, imperfections, and blemishes of diamonds.

“Diamonds are formed deep within the earth, under extreme heat and pressure; virtually all diamonds contain “birthmarks”, small imperfections inside the diamond (called inclusions), or on its surface (called blemishes). Clarity refers to the degree to which these imperfections are present. Diamond cutters make every effort to cut a stone so that inclusions are not visible through the table of the finished diamond.”

I love how Diamond cutters call imperfections inclusions. Every diamond has an inclusion. You are a diamond, as valuable, unique, inclusive and brilliant.

Expect Good Things to Happen To You

Wallace D. Wattles shares

“Every (wo)man has the natural and inherent power to think what he wants to think but requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To think according to appearance is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious, and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work (wo)man is called upon to perform.”

You can think about what you really want to think and you can expect really good things to happen to you.

What is see is what you get. If you are seeing through a victim’s eyes, see limitations and expect failure and then that is what you will see and that is what will appear. Even when amazing, miraculous experiences are happening around you, because of your focus on negativity you won’t see the good, amazing, results.

Your Opinion Matters

Speak up, sit up because of your opinion matters.

There are legions of us women. Women who have an opinion and aren’t afraid to speak up.  From the time we were little we were heard.

These are women who see solutions and opportunities and point them out to others. As girls we were were coached to be quiet, punished and sent to detention, and often told sit down and shut up.

I had the good fortune of watching Dr. Marcia Reynold’s Tedex talk about Precocious women.   Leadership and talent development leaders will learn how to retain and promote women with opinions.

Precocious children [advanced for one’s age, forwardmaturegiftedtalentedcleverintelligentquick, smart] become precocious adults.

When a precocious woman leads. Things get done.
