Secret Key to Asking

Magic sauce Ask for what you want

There is a secret key to achieving your dreams.  The key is asking. It is one of the most daunting action steps a person can take, and the most liberating.

There are many ways of asking, for most situations it starts with these three steps.

1. Decide what you want, specifically, know what you want overall. Then decide what you want in specifics (really break it down)

2. Know who to ask

3 Ask

It all sounds so simple.  I know it isn’t.

The Gift of Knowing

I have had a long time of knowing. A long time of knowing but not necessarily believing this was my destiny. For a long time, I kept asking for my mission and my purpose. While I had many signals that directed me, I still was not sure.

My journey has been as glorious as a winding stream traveling long distances, curving, going back, and having many switchbacks. At times my stream was a rapid river of abundance and experiences, at other times it was a little trickle, still moving but by droplets. I know I was impatient, wondering and often not appreciating where I was and how I got there.

What I’ve learned is the stream will always be flowing until the day I die, only then, maybe I will have reached my destiny.

Be A Diamond Cutter

A foible is a minor weakness or eccentricity in someone’s character. Synonyms include words such as weakness, failing, shortcomings, flaws, imperfections, blemish, fault or limitations.

Humans tend to look for imperfections, comparing themselves to perfection which doesn’t exist. They search for what is wrong rather than search for what is right.

I love reading about diamonds and their value. I apply what I learn to myself and the people I work with. I want to use my knowledge to help people respect, honor and showcase their value.

Recently I read about the flaws, imperfections, and blemishes of diamonds.

“Diamonds are formed deep within the earth, under extreme heat and pressure; virtually all diamonds contain “birthmarks”, small imperfections inside the diamond (called inclusions), or on its surface (called blemishes). Clarity refers to the degree to which these imperfections are present. Diamond cutters make every effort to cut a stone so that inclusions are not visible through the table of the finished diamond.”

I love how Diamond cutters call imperfections inclusions. Every diamond has an inclusion. You are a diamond, as valuable, unique, inclusive and brilliant.

Your Opinion Matters

Speak up, sit up because of your opinion matters.

There are legions of us women. Women who have an opinion and aren’t afraid to speak up.  From the time we were little we were heard.

These are women who see solutions and opportunities and point them out to others. As girls we were were coached to be quiet, punished and sent to detention, and often told sit down and shut up.

I had the good fortune of watching Dr. Marcia Reynold’s Tedex talk about Precocious women.   Leadership and talent development leaders will learn how to retain and promote women with opinions.

Precocious children [advanced for one’s age, forwardmaturegiftedtalentedcleverintelligentquick, smart] become precocious adults.

When a precocious woman leads. Things get done.

What do you think about this TEDX with Dr Reynolds.

Nurture Your Highest Perspective of Self

Nurture your highest perspective of self. Focus all your energy on your best self. Keep mindful of your magnificence and influence.  It isn’t easy in the world of social media and public critics. It is challenging when your biggest critic is yourself.

I wish there were blinders I could give you that would prevent you from comparing you to you (your reality now with your powerful, amazing now) and you to others.

I would rather you look at you from a higher perspective filled with the adoration, appreciation and expectation.Who you already are and who you strive to be and that you are living the story you want to live.

During my Influence coaching practice, I encounter brilliant leaders sometimes struggling with the story they tell themselves over and over and getting frustrated because they really want to live another story, what they perceive is their future story.

We work on shifting their current perception of self to their highest perspective of self. There are a lot of processes and techniques to get there.

These are five recommendations all of my leaders hear from me.

Leaders Take R.I.S.K.S.

Take the risk and grow your influence as leaders. Being a leader requires you to be willing to step out of your comfort zone, share yourself, think bigger and be bigger.

Leaders Take R.I.S.K.S.

R = Relationship

Focus on relationships and building new relationships. For me, it’s this year’s aim to have a hundred breakfast, lunch, coffee or dinner meetings. To attend gatherings so I can meet new people and connect with them one-on-one or in small groups. This is big, I like staying in and being in quiet.

I =  Illuminate Your Success

There is nothing wrong with highlighting successes that you have achieved.  People want to celebrate your successes. Post on Facebook and Linkedin and share your awards. Share what you’ve accomplished or have achieved lately. It makes a difference to people because they love celebrating their friends and acquaintances who have achieved. It’s also inspiring to them, so share your successes, it matters to people.
